With “Nightness” we wanted to create a CD that is multi-faceted, catchy and dark at the same time ...The whole thing, without being alien to our own style, which is difficult to put into words ... this common thread, which runs through the entire EP through HELM's singing, was very important to us when working on this release.
Since our last album "Filthy Tendrils" was created entirely on our own under sometimes chaotic and underfunded conditions, this time we didn't want to compromise on the sound and took the time to try out and select the right equipment. We have also broken new ground, for example, with miking and pre-amplification as well as the integration of various hardware instruments through CHRIS.
We have also found a new partner in Sebastian Schleinitz from the C-Base Studios, who has not only successfully helped us with mixing and mastering, but has also always inspired us with new ideas.
Lyrically, HELM sings the usual CATTAC stories about darkness, death and dark fantasies. As on the first two albums, he worked his way in a very hidden way and always without becoming too personal, through internal wounds and sometimes very old, dark thoughts. He had noticed how good it was for him to sing the songs from his soul, because he knew each of their true meaning and was able to come to terms with the past despite the skilful packaging.
The song "Dark Siren" describes a lonely siren who, lost in the depths of the ocean, waits for her great love in the form of a sinking human being. It is the sad dichotomy between the desire to put an end to all this loneliness and her longing on the one hand, and the unbroken hope that one day someone could come down to her. She is a tragic, sad figure, but one who deserves her very special admiration.
With the song "Morticians", CATTAC have for the first time a lyrically somewhat funnier song in their program, which deals with the brave job of our undertaker. We also produced a cool video for this - be sure to check it out!
With the song "Forgive My Sins", for which the songwriting was completely taken over by CHRIS, the title says it all.
It's about a desirable encounter, which through its merciless, seductive nature forces you to confess willingly and to throw off any "old ballast" ... you simply cannot defend yourself against its aura and surrender to confession.
With “One of these Nights” we reenacted a CATTAC ballad that was created in 2018. We thought it was too good to be forgotten...
The songs "Nightness" and "Solitude of the night" go in a similar lyrical direction and the latter is also a song we recorded in 2018 ... have a guest shouter on board to try something new ...
